This body of work explores memory, family, and culture through food and food preparation. Growing up, I experienced two different cultures (Bajan and African American) and the unique meals, beverages, snacks, and food-related rituals of each culture. Each piece in this series unlocks a moment from my childhood and acts as a sort of cinematic still for the viewer to experience these things. Upon first glance, the artworks may seem like ordinary still lives, but the objects, foods, and people are specifically chosen, rendered, and sometimes given text that aids in providing a certain slice of nostalgia from my upbringing. I hope that as people experience the show, they are left reminiscing about their favorite foods and the memories connected to them.
